Unknown fate, unknown future...

I opened my eyes to yet another lazy day, sprawling my legs high up in the air as I stretched myself. Yawn! Getting up on my feet, I shrugged, followed by a good body shake. Chewing on the metal bars that caged me and my 2 other siblings (1 Sis & 1 Bro) my thoughts went back to my beginning.

I was born in Australia, in a puppy mill. I could not remember much. I was too young back then to understand. Oh well, not that I am old enough now to know why & how I ended up here. All I could recall was opening my eyes to see my Mummy surrounded by my many siblings. We fought to get fed. Snuggling with my Mummy and siblings was the best thing, they made me warm and cosy.

But outside our tiny cage stood a terrible world. A world that was ugly & scary. There were many cages placed alongside with each other, stacking high up to the ceiling. I constantly heard cryings from other cages & yelling from humans. I don't really knew what was happening.

One day, a huge strong hand reached out for me and my siblings. Mummy cried, but did nothing as she had already resigned to her fate. Tears of sorrow glided down her face. "My beloved puppies… take care. And may you find love and a great home wherever you go."

I struggled with my dear life to break free from the grasp. "Let me go!" I squeaked. " Mummy! Mummy! Help me!" Why didn't Mummy do anything to stop the human? Don't she love me?

The hand dropped me and my siblings into a crate and the next few days we went on a bumpy journey to a foreign land.

Author's note:

One of my favourite book is 'A rare breed of love' written by Jana Kohl, Psy. D. In this book, I was exposed to the cruelty carried out at puppy mills in order to gain profit through commercial breeding of doggies who are caged up & confirmed in tiny & unsanitary living conditions.

I subsequently researched on more information about puppy mill. Honestly, it was very disturbing going through the various websites as I read about how these puppy mills operate and thrive on the expenses on poor animals who are absolutely helpless, with no adequate food & unethical treatment rendered. These doggies are kept alive to do nothing but breed to produce puppies when they are on heat. They have very little chance of being loved in their lifetime. Dirty, smelly & ungroomed, these doggies are left to die after devoting 4 years of their life giving birth to puppies. In my opinion, public should be aware of the cruelty and unethical practice of puppy mill. Puppies do look cute in pet shops, but the inhumane suffering their mothers and these puppies got to go through before that is just beyond my imagination.

There are many ways to  find yourself a great companion other than getting them from puppy mills. I shall discuss more about this in my next blog entry.
